The popularity of Alexander McQueen perfume skyrocketed following the British fashion designer's tragic death in February 2010. Fortunately, for McQueen fans, the style icon's scents are still available for purchase.

About Alexander McQueen

Born Lee Alexander McQueen in March 1969, the openly gay designer is known for his unconventional, dramatic designs and legendary celebrity clientele, from pop superstars, such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna to television and movie actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Top fashion magazine editors called McQueen a "modern-day genius" for creating a highly successful clothing and fragrance empire before his sudden death at age 40.

Less than 10 years after he entered the world of fashion, McQueen became one of the most respected designers in the world. In 1990 McQueen traveled to Milan where he worked as a design assistant to Romeo Gigli. Then, in October 1996 he was appointed chief designer at the French label Givenchy where he worked until March 2001. A few months prior to leaving Givenchy, McQueen's designs were acquired by luxury brand Gucci, where he eventually became creative director.

While at Gucci McQueen opened a series of flagship stores in New York, London, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Milan. Despite McQueen's untimely death, the shops that bear his name are still in business. The upscale boutiques carry original McQueen gothic designs and Alexander McQueen perfume.

Alexander McQueen Perfume Collection

Alexander McQueen debuted two perfumes for women before his death. Kingdom, in 2003 and My Queen, in 2005.

My Queen

My Queen Perfume for Women is a floral fragrance with hint of spicy scents from the Orient. It features soft, spice orange blossoms and a blend of:

  • Parma violet
  • Vanilla
  • Sweet almond
  • Vetiver
  • White musk
  • Heliotrope
  • Cedar
  • Iris
  • Patchouli
  • White Flowers

Lovely Layers

My Queen is designed to evoke regal images with a layering of scents, from musky vetiver and smoky cedar to a lighter progression of subtle iris and bittersweet heliotrope. The perfume is rich and feminine, thanks in large part to its resonating floral notes.McQueen is said to have designed the wearable fragrance to act as an accessory to one of his most popular haute couture collections featuring frilly meets gothic ensembles. If you are a girly girl who wants to top off her evening look with a captivatingly rich scent, then paint the town wearing My Queen.

Kingdom

Much has been said and written about Alexander McQueen's second perfume, Kingdom. The unique fragrance features a mix of scents most people would never consider combining. Kingdom is laced with:

  • Myrrh
  • Cumin
  • Jasmine
  • Bergamot
  • Mandarin
  • Orange

Kingdom is a full-bodied, headstrong fragrance, which is not recommended for the faint of heart. The scent is slightly off balance and features a powerful personality that some might find offensive. At the time of Kingdom's launch, McQueen told fashion magazine editors that his new fragrance presented a "challenge" much like his most daring designs.

Cumin Factor

The heady cumin scent of Kingdom takes getting used to as it can linger long after it is initially applied. While some find the scent of cumin to be rich, intoxicating, sexy and empowering, others define the smell as intensely repulsive. Kingdom is not a fresh, fruity perfume for ultra-feminine girls. Rather, the fragrance is musky, masculine and is often mistaken for curry. If you are a bold fashionista looking for an enticing scent that will complement your cutting-edge style, then consider adding Kingdom to your perfume collection.

Where to Buy Alexander McQueen Perfume

My Queen and Kingdom should not be applied to those with sensitive skin or to skin that is red or inflamed. The fragrances are available at Alexander McQueen stores worldwide. In addition, McQueen's signature scents can be purchased online at the following sites:
